Description
for Concert Band
by Roberto Chioccoloni
The piece has an introductory part characterized by harmonic parallelism in order not to provide a clear tonal reference. The melody of the first theme is harmonized with descending bass, the second theme is first superimposed on elements of the first theme, then in variation with elements in counterpoint and with canon entries. In the central part of the piece the first theme is proposed in a minor way. Following this, the variations of the first theme and the dominant pedal introduce the final part of the composition; here the fragments of the second theme overlap with elements of the first and second themes as a subject and countersubject, with the addition, in the final part, of a third voice in free counterpoint.
