Modern Concert March
The desire to compose and publish AMICABANDA has therefore come true: it was my duty to give credit and gratitude to Rinaldo Moroni, director of Edizioni Vidale in Milan, who passed away in September 2023.
Rinaldo has always been close to me since my first band publications, always very kind and available to advise me, with his great experience and wisdom, in introducing me to the band repertoire, especially that which concerned the numerous compositions of the uncle who founded the music house, the Maestro Pietro Vidale (1902-1976).
Who knows how many Master Directors, Teachers, Presidents, Secretaries and Band Instrumentalists have frequented the offices of Edizioni Vidale, on the 7th floor of the Galleria del Corso in Milan. I was a student at the Verdi Conservatory and played in the Lissone band, the vice-master sent me to buy the parts of the marchettes, which were arranged by catalog number in the boxes on the shelves. I was guided in this research by Maestro Pietro Vidale himself and his nephew Rinaldo Moroni, the latter apprentice assistant and then manager of Edizioni Vidale.
Later the excellent secretary Nadia Marchetti was added.
They were fantastic people who introduced me to the world of the band and who encouraged and facilitated me in the composition and publication of my songs.

AMICABANDA wants to be the testimony and gratitude for the work done and for the generosity that Rinaldo Moroni has always shown towards the activity of the Italian Bands.
In this “modern concert march”, I used various tempos: 2/4, 6/8, 4/4 precisely to signify the marchable variety of this genre (I thought of the repertoire of the numerous marches published by Edizioni Vidale).
The introductory blast, of a modern character, with a dialogue between brass and reeds, could not be missing. Following is a marchable proposal of this theme, in 2/4, of a decisive nature.
Subsequently, a more relaxed change that leads to the melodic progression of 6/8, in a progressive, singable and enthralling way.
The alternation proposes the return of 2/4 with the initial theme enriched by the embroideries of the instruments of the high register, which leads to chordal breaks where the percussion formulates rhythmic parts that lead to the TRIO in 4/4.
A homorhythmic and well-articulated introduction leads to a diminuendo.
The beat accompaniment favors a new cantabile line in the medium low register, with a characteristic chordal, accompaniment combination of the brass instruments.
The melodic development is taken up first by the trumpets and then by the reed register, favoring countermelodies and harmonic enrichments that lead to a rhythmic return that introduces the TRIO.
In the second part of the TRIO the main theme returns, again in 4/4, this time counterpointed by the fun of the flutes and piccolo, which, also involving the clarinets, contribute to giving liveliness; the addition of trills and variety in the instrumental phrasing allow us to reach a dynamic climax that involves all the band sections.
At the CODA another rhythmic digression leads to the final 2/4: the opening theme reappears with close interventions and the FRIENDLY BAND concludes with decisive chords.
Precisely friendship, generosity and goodness of spirit animated the character of Rinaldo Moroni, I really think that these qualities are present in the development of the compositional parts of AMICABANDA.
Dear Rinaldo, you really helped all the bands in making music together, publishing valid proposals in the artistic and cultural repertoire: from the original to the transcription, from the march to the modern-rhythmic genre, without neglecting the didactic part, with methods and studies.
I really hope that all Banda fans remember the editorial work
of Edizioni VIDALE, in particular the commitment and competence of Rinaldo
Moroni: his humanity and his spirit, with the addition of a prayer, accompany the dedication and performance of this FRIENDLY BAND “modern concert march”.
