MARCH
by Sandro Montalto
Composed on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the foundation of the Philharmonic “G. Puccini” of Viggiù and dedicated to M ° Irene Guerra
The Vicus Julii march, whose title derives from the ancient name of Viggiù, was composed on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the foundation of the “Giacomo Puccini” Philharmonic and is dedicated to its conductor M ° Irene Guerra.
The first theme is inspired, without mentioning it in any direct way, from the well-known song The Firemen of Viggiù. The trio’s theme draws the first six notes from a musical dedication (in turn taken from Bohème) that Puccini wrote in 1921 on the register of a hotel in the city.
