Description
Concert for Euphonium or Tenor flugelhorn and Wind Band
by Gesualdo Coggi
A recently rediscovered and previously unpublished piece by Gesualdo Coggi (1915-2005), one of the greatest Italian composers of band music: “L’Artista Virtuoso” for Euphonium or Tenor Flugelhorn and Band. Written in 1949, it is dedicated to Alberto Nalli, a childhood friend of the composer and former principal trombone of the Orchestra del Teatro Argentino de La Plata in Buenos Aires. Coggi’s typical singing ability and attention to instrumentation, together with the band’s virtuosic display and rich interventions, place “L’Artista Virtuoso” in the best tradition of its genre.
