Description

for violin and string orchestra
dedicated to the great violinist Felice Cusano

by Antonio Manca

This musical work, entitled “Anima Spirat Lucem” is in a single tempo. The form is predominantly elegiac, with two fundamental themes proposed and elaborated during the development of the work itself.

The slow pace returns a broader scope of the string accompaniment, which supports the lyrical character of the solo instrument (the violin).

In certain places one has the impression of a departure from the tonal character, but there is punctually a support for the traditional harmonic sense.

When tackling the composition, I wanted to imagine the amazement and interior wonder that the Virgin Mary felt when receiving the message from the Archangel Gabriel, who communicated to her the Incarnation of the Word.

Amazement and wonder at having been chosen among all the women. She who has since become Mother of all of us. The wonder we feel today in knowing His acceptance in such an enormously important role for all humanity.
