Description
monodrama for treble voice and orchestra
by Giacomo Roghi
The Little Match Girl is a monodrama for children’s voice and orchestra designed to be enjoyed and produced especially in schools, in particular to be performed by musical middle school ensembles, musical high schools and youth ensembles of music conservatories; it can also be presented in primary school project areas in lesson form
concert as this work allows children to take advantage of many differences regarding musical parameters for perceptive games or short analyses.
The monodrama narrates the fairy tale of the same name, which is recited and possibly narrated by a single actor present on stage. However, for the purposes of the performing arts, it is possible for both the little match girl and the narrator to be present on stage; the narrator’s lines are highlighted with square brackets, the movements with round brackets and the little match girl’s lines without brackets.
The monodrama is designed for a youth symphony orchestra, however five extra parts are provided for different instruments to replace the strings; therefore, the performance of this monodrama is also possible by a wind orchestra, and not only by a symphony orchestra; these parts are indicated as “Part 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 sus. Vln I, Vln II etc”.
The first performance of “the little match girl” took place on Tuesday 21 December 2021 at the Tempio della Beata Vergine del Soccorso in Rovigo performed by the Young Wind Band and Giovani Archi Venezze of Rovigo.
